More from Room 2

This week is quite different from most, with the girls all doing self defense on Monday and Tuesday, while all of the boys are with Mr Lockington.

Girls' Self Defense
This takes place on Monday and Tuesday. It is a great opportunity for our senior girls to learn what could potentially be life saving skills.

Kayaking
This will be taking place over the next three weeks leading up until the end of the year. Make sure that you know which day that you will be out on the lake!

Maths
Maths swap is now over for the year. The remaining maths sessions for the rest of the year will be in Room 2 with Mrs Hodgkinson and Mr Nelson. A lot of focus will be on using the Maths Buddy website.

Year 8 Dinner
Start getting your flash clothes out for the senior event of the year. We are looking forward to seeing our Year 8s dress up for the big event.

Reports
These are just about done. However, it's never to late for changes to be made! Make sure that you finish the year strong so that you get the positive feedback and marks that you deserve for a great year in Room 2.

Raft Race
This is now only just over two weeks away. If you haven't already done so, start thinking about your race winning design.

Room 2 latest

Only four weeks to go until the end of the year. These weeks will be four very busy ones, as we look to make the most of every learning opportunity over the final 20 school days of 2011.

Languages
This week the French post has stayed the same, as we didn't have a class session last week due to Mr Nelson being away on Thursday afternoon. This means that the post from last week on telling the time is still the most current and up to date.

For the Te Reo Maori blog the new topic is on body parts. The new post will help you with pronunciation of words, as we have borrowed links to the New Zealand History website.

Maths
The Room 2 group is enjoying the use of the Maths Buddy website. As stated last week, all Room 2 students have access to this superb web resource until the end of January 2012. What a great way to give students a head start on what they will be doing in their 2012 maths lessons!

Raft Race
Have you organised a group to start working on your raft for this year's challenge?

Athletics
Congratulations to those children who have qualified for the regional championships. Make sure you keep up that training at home to support what you are doing at school. Give yourself every opportunity of doing your very best against students from across the Wellington region.

Topic
The class is currently studying the elections. Have a look at the newspaper and the television news to find out what's going on. Can you guess who will be the prime minister on Sunday morning?

Homework
The new homework sheet has been posted on this blog. You can access the homework through the link on the top right of this blog page.

Mahi Tahi Kai Tahi
It was great to see so many Room 2 children at last week's Mahi Tahi Kai Tahi event. We are hoping that the event will lead to the building of closer relationships between school and home as one means of supporting children to do their very best at school.

Room 2 Update

Here's the latest from Room 2

Topic
We are about to start a new topic on the elections. Check out the website of the week on the school website to learn about what goes on in parliament.

Maths
Use your access to the Maths Buddy website to go over the concepts and skills that are being covered in class. You have free access to the website until the end of January, so make the most of it to get a head start on the 2012 school year.

Te Reo Maori
Go to the Let's Learn Te Reo Maori website and do the test that has been posted on the site. This is a very good way to revise on a lot of what has been covered in class this year.

French
The next unit that we do in class will be on telling the time. Check out the French blog to get a heads up on the content that will be covered in the unit.

Homework
A new homework sheet has been posted on this blog. You can access the homework by clicking the link on the top right of this page.

The Raft Race
This is coming up at the end of the year. Start thinking about your design; it would be great to see the largest number of entries yet in this year's competition.

The latest from Room 2

Week 2 was a particularly busy one, with athletics on Tuesday and Pet Day on Friday. It's great to have the students involved in a range of activities and events for the last few weeks of the year!

Maths
All Room 2 students now have access to the excellent Maths Buddy website. The maths group that works with Mr Nelson on Thursdays have all had their first session on the site. The rest of the class will be introduced to the site in our ICT session on Thursday.

PE and Sport
Although we have had the athletics sports we will still be doing athletics as our major focus for the term. Congratulations to all of the students in Room 2 who have been selected for the inter school athletics event on Friday.

There are also Room 2 students who will be taking part in the inter school rippa rugby finals on Thursday.

ICT
We are learning how to make presentations on Google Docs (similar to the Powerpoint programme).

Languages
A new lesson has been posted on the Te Reo Maori blog. For the French blog, the same lesson is still the most current, as we have not yet started the clothing unit.

Testing
There have been some fantastic results from many of the Room 2 students in recent standardized testing. Mrs Hodgkinson and Mr Nelson are both extremely proud of the learning progress that is being made by the class.

Homework
A new homework sheet has been posted on the blog. You can access it through the link on the top right of this page.

More from Room 2

We have completed a busy first week back in Room 2, and busy it will stay right up until the end of the year. We aim to make the most of every moment to prepare everyone in Room 2 for their 2012 school year.

Homework
Remember to check the homework sheet that you can access on the top right of this blog. The sheet will always be up to date and relevant in terms of what is happening in Room 2 and the senior syndicate.

Athletics
The school athletics will take place on Tuesday. The event is early due to the inter school event taking place on November 11th, and us needing to get our students who qualify entered on time. Athletics will continue as the school and syndicate focus for most of the term.

Maths
The Room 2 group will be given access to the excellent online Maths Buddy resource. This will be used extensively by Mr Nelson's group every Thursday. Students will also have access to the programme in their own time, as we have signed in for a free trial that will expire at the end of January 2012.

Pet Day
This takes place on Friday. Check out the newsletter that went home last week. We would love to see all of our children involved as much as possible; the more they are involved, the more fun they will have!

Student testing
The next week or so will see Room 2 students completing a number of tests. Make sure that you come to school ready to learn and achieve to your potential so that you are ready to show us what you can do!

Te Reo Maori and French
There are new posts on both of these blogs. Check them out, as they give you a head start on what is coming up in class in these two areas.

Back to school!

At the time of this being written there is just one day till school starts again. Hopefully everyone is felling refreshed and are looking forward to the final eight weeks of the school year. For our Year 8s, this will be their final term before heading off to college!

Here are some things to look forward to:

Your Teachers
Mrs Hodgkinson will continue to teach on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Mr Nelson will teach the class every Thursday.

Te Reo Maori and French
The Let's Learn Te Reo Maori and Let's Learn French website blogs will continue for the next eight weeks. If you're feeling a little rusty with either of the two languages, take the time to visit the websites to revise what has been covered so far this year.

Homework
The new sheet has been posted on this blog. You can access it through the link on the top right of this page.

The Three Rs
Maths and literacy programmes will continue right up to the end of the year. We aim to keep the kids engaged right up to the last day, making the most of all time available to prepare them for 2012, whether it be for college or their final year at primary school.

Topic
There is more to do on the Take Action for Water unit. The action starts now, with the children looking to see how they can contribute to making our valuable fresh water reserves stay just that, fresh!

PE and Sport
Athletics will be the first sports topic for the term. School athletics are only a few weeks away. From the school event, we are looking forward to seeing many of our students qualifying for the inter-school event, which takes place in late November.

The Year 8 Dinner
This will take place near the end of the term. This is a very special event that celebrates what it is to be a Year 8 at Lakeview School. Many of our Year 7 students will have the honour of being selected to serve the Year 8s on the evening.

Any concerns
Please always feel free to catch up with Mrs H or Mr Nelson if you have any questions or concerns.
